The ALSA RETAIL INSIGHTS professional development program has been developed by ALSA - the Australian Liquor Stores Association.  ALSA is the peak retail industry body representing the liquor store sector of the Australian alcohol industry.

ALSA's charter is to create and promote a responsible, sustainable and diverse off-premise (retail) liquor sector across Australia.

ALSA, with the support of our supplier partners, has developed this resource for liquor retailers to assist them in making better business decisions in today’s increasingly competitive business environment.

Stage 1 of the website, launched in August 2013, contains the first five components of the program identified by ALSA as being of most significance to liquor retailers. More elements will be added over future months.

The day to day operations of a retail liquor business are complex and require up to date and relevant information be available to help run a successful business.

The ALSA RETAIL INSIGHTS program has been developed with this in mind. Resources have been sourced from many areas. Our supplier partners have assisted in providing information, particularly in the area of Shopper Insights.

The information has been designed to be presented in an easy to use format, with the clear understanding that there are many competing priorities in running a business and that your time is always precious. Each of the components of the program have been designed to be informative and outcome driven.

The ALSA RETAIL INSIGHTS program has been Project Managed by experienced liquor retailer Mal Higgs. Mal has been involved in the retail liquor industry for over 40 years and has also been involved in many aspects of the industry, including having been the President of ALSA for over 20 years. Mal, working with the ALSA National Executive and ALSA CEO Terry Mott (also a former liquor retailer with broad business experience), have identified the elements which are crucial to success in today’s retail environment.

This website based resource has been developed with these in mind.

ALSA’s first professional development initiative was to establish a broad range of training courses in 2004 under the banner of RLDF – the Retail Liquor Development Foundation. These courses, delivered in a face to face environment and more recently including Accredited Certificate IV training, were developed specifically for the retail liquor industry - for owners, managers and staff. ALSA has now extended that training into the online environment with the impending launch of ALSA TRAIN which you will soon be able to visit.

The ALSA RETAIL INSIGHTS program has been developed for the retail liquor sector and is ready for you to use and learn from. For a limited time, the site will be available for all to trial.
